The Schiphol International
Airport:
The Schiphol or Amsterdam Airport is one of the
busiest airports in Europe closely ranked with Heathrow, Charles
de Gaulle and the Frankfurt International Airports. As the
main airport of the Netherlands, Schiphol surpassed the 42
million passenger annual mark in 2004.
Constant expansion by the airport’s operators
takes place regularly in order to cope with anticipated increases
in required capacity. The airport is the main operating hub
of Dutch Airline KLM. The airline conducts regular flights
from the airport to major cities around the world including
Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. Schiphol has one large
terminal building divided into subsections.
Other major airlines operating from Schiphol
are; Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Olympic Airlines,
Air France, Aer Lingus, British Airways, Kenya Airways, Egpytair,
Air Canada, EasyJet, Singapore Airlines, Delta Airlines.
Services at the airport:
There is a railway terminal situated beneath
the main terminal building. A train service provides a speedy
means of transport linking the airport to the Amsterdam City
Centre. There are also taxis, buses and shuttles offered by
various travel agents and some hotels. The airport’s
lounges offer wireless internet access, there are also duty
free shops, bars, restaurants, foreign exchange services and
travel agencies.
