Arhus:
The
second largest City in Denmark after Copenhagen, Arhus is a major
port City situated within the municipality of Arhus. Also known
as Aarhus, the City is home to an estimated 250,000 people. Archaological
findings suggest that Arhus had been inhabited more than 1,000
years ago by the Vikings. It since developed mainly because of
its port and in modern times as an important centre for education.
The town is home to the Arhus University, the University College
of Arhus and a number of small education institutions.
Tourism:
The City enjoys a healthy tourism industry mainly
because of its rich cultural history which are on show at a
number of cultural festivals held annually most notable is
the Arhus Festival. The festival is held during the first week
of September and is a celebration of music and performing arts.
Tourist attractions:
The town has a number of interesting places to
visit including the botanical garden and a number of museums
and art galleries such as; the Arhus City Museum, the Arhus
Art Museum, the Museum of Prehistory and the Collection of
Ancient Art. The City is also home to a number of prominent
buildings featuring interesting architecture such as the Arhus
Domkirke, the Arhus City hall and the Church of Our Lady.
Arhus Domkirke: this is a large Cathedral
and the pride of Arhus, a must visit when touring the town.
Its construction was completed around 1300 and features a very
large organ and imposing altar.
