Athens:
Athens is the Capital of Greece and has for centuries
been the Centre of power and civilization since ancient Greece.
The City is famed for its history and is the main tourist attraction
for visitors to the Country. Athens is distinguished as being
the city where the Olympics were born.
The City hosted the first modern day Olympics
in 1896 and most recently in 2004. The City underwent major
rehabilitation and development of its infrastructure as part
of its preparations for hosting the Games. Athens is the integral
centre for commerce and administration, home to the Country’s
parliament. The City is also home to the Athens State University
and the University of Athens.
Tourism in Athens:
Athens is a friendly and entertaining city with
one of the lowest crime rates of major European Cities. The
City has a seemingly endless selection of tourist attractions.
Athens has a range of historical sites, museums and public
parks. For entertainment and recreation, there are nightclubs,
theme parks, zoo, sporting facilities, restaurants and shopping
complexes.
The Temple of Olympian Zeus:
now mostly in ruins, the temple was dedicated to Zeus the leader
of all Greek Gods. The temple’s construction dates back
to the 6th century B.C.
Kallimarmaron: this historic
stadium hosted the first modern Olympics in 1896 and at the
2004 Olympics; it was the finish point for the marathon races.
