Eisriesenwelt:

Situated near the village of Werfen about 40 km from Salzburg City, the Eisriesenwelt is one of Austria’s leading tourist attractions and a marvel of Mother Nature. Discovered in 1879 it is the largest ice cave in the world. The cave is easily reachable by road from Salzburg. A train service also operates from Salzburg to Werfen Village which is within easy reach of the cave. Guided tours are conducted at specific times of the year and the park is open between late April and late October. Precise dates can be confirmed by visiting the official site of the park at: http://www.eisriesenwelt.at/

What to bring and personal preparation:

All year round Eisriesenwelt is frozen and temperatures here are in the minus degrees. It is recommended that you carry warm clothing for the excursion. A complete tour of the caves means that you climb about 134 meters which is usually not strenuous and can be completed by most.

Costs:

You can hike from the main gates to the cave or take a cable car. Entrance to the caves including a cable car ride is 17 Euros for adults and 8.50 Euros for Children. It costs less for guided or self-guided tours of the cave without the cable car ride.
