Vienna
is the Capital of Austria and the largest City of the Country.
The City is situated within the State of Vienna and is the main
commerce and political center of the Country. The City has an estimated
population of 1.6 million residents.
Vienna is also one of the four headquarters of
the United Nations the others being New York, Geneva and Nairobi.
The offices located at the Vienna International Centre are
the headquarters for a number of UN organs.
A Short History:
Vienna was originally established as a Celtic
village known as Vindomina in the then Roman Empire. Vienna
since its humble inception flourished over the centuries to
become an important City State. It became the Capital of the
Austrian Republic in 1918.
Tourism in Vienna:
The City has a vibrant tourism and travel industry
with many visitors attracted to its historic buildings and
more importantly performing arts and culture. Vienna is famed

The House of Music:
Situated within the building of the Habsburg
Palace, the House of Music is a museum opened in 2000. The
museum features amazing displays of music history and creation
together with modern technologies on its seven floors.
Gasometer Town:
The result of an ambitious rehabilitation project
completed in 2001, The Gasometer Complex is a major attraction
for visitors to Vienna. The project involved the conversion
of four large cylindrical gas storage tanks into a residential,
shopping and entertainment complex.
St Stephen’s Cathedral:
Constructed in 1147 AD, this Cathedral is a major
landmark in the City and was for a while regarded as the tallest
building in Europe with its southern tower standing at a height
of 137 meters.
The Danube River:
You can visit the famous Danube River which passes
through the City of Vienna. You can hire a boat or board a
river cruise and take in the amazing scenery, ski or even ice
skate in winter.
