Austria:

Austria is a small central European Nation and a former constituent of the Austro-Hungarian Empire that disintegrated following the end of the 1st World War and victory by the Allied Nations. The Country is landlocked and is situated to the West of Germany, North of Italy. The Country has an estimated population of 8.2 Million People and covers an area of approximately 83,871 Square Km.

Vienna is the Capital and largest City in Austria though the Country has a number of other prominent Cities such as; Salzburg, Innsbruck and Eisenstadt.

Tourism in Austria:

Austria has a thriving tourism industry which attracts many locals and foreign visitors to its picturesque landscapes which include rivers, snowcapped mountain tops and centuries of history and culture. Austrian Winter Resorts are popular for skiers and holidaymakers. Many ski zones in the Country experience firm snow cover at most times of the year here.

Government:

Austria is a thriving democratic nation with a federal republic system. The Country is divided into the nine states of; Burgenland, Carinthia. Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Vienna. Austria is a member of the European Union having joined it in 1995.

Economy:

Austria has some of the best living standards in Europe, with a thriving economy that features; agriculture, automobiles, tourism, timber processing, paper products, food and construction.

Religion:

A large majority of Austrians are Christians with the main denominations in the Country being; Roman Catholic and Protestant. Islam is also practiced by a few here.

Language:

German is the official language in Austria though Hungarian, Croatian and Slovene are also widely spoken.
