Belarus
is a former Soviet State which attained its independence from the
Union in 1991. The Country is situated in Eastern Europe between
Russia to its east and Poland to the west. Belarus has a population
of 10,293, 011 people, mostly of Belarusian ethnicity. Belarusian
and Russian are the Country’s national languages. Belarus
still at present maintains strong ties with Russia the largest
republic of the Soviet Union.
Tourism in Belarus:
Belarus is a country rich in culture and history.
There is a good number of tourist attractions to be found here
from nature reserves to important historic buildings. The main
airport serving the Country is the Minsk International airport
situated in the Country’s capital. Accommodation in the
Country is affordable and good hotels can be found in Minsk.
Other accommodation options include apartments and holiday
villas.
The Country also has a well developed road and rail network; and traveling
around Belarus is not usually an unpleasant activity.
Bialowieza Forest: a protected
nature reserve which features a variety of native wildlife
such as; Wisent, Elk and Wild Boar. This reserve is situated
at the Grodno Province in Belarus and its boundaries stretch
into neighboring Poland.
Brest Fortress: one of the country’s
leading attractions, this fortress was built in the early
19th Century and though largely intact, it was the scene of fighting
between its Russian defenders and German Forces in the 2nd
World War.
The Mir Castle: built in the
early 16th Century, this Castle is heritage listed by UNESCO.
The complex is largely intact and features landscaped gardens
and green.
Other major sights in the Country are; the Old
Palace and the Ruins of the Palace of Sapega.
