Berlin
is the Capital City of Germany, a status it has held since 1990
when East and West Germany were reunited. The City has a population
of 3.4 million residents and is the largest in the Country. Berlin
is a leading tourist destination for visitors to the Country. The
city has a host of entertainment options, shopping facilities,
sports, recreational facilities, museums, monuments and historical
sights.

Airports:
Berlin is served by three main airports; Tegel
International, Schonefeld Airport and Tempelhof Airport. Tegel
is the busiest of the three airports. Plans are currently to
develop the Schonefeld Airport to be the main airport in the
City mainly for its outskirt location.

Berlin will be one of the host cities for the
2006 World Cup at the Olympiastadion; home to local soccer
club Hertha Berlin.
The Berlin Wall:
As the most significant physical symbol of the “Iron Curtain”,
the Berlin Wall was built by East Germany in 1961 and was a permanent division
of East and West Berlin. The wall was ceremoniously brought down by civilians
from both sides in 1990 in one of the events that led to the reunification
of the Country.
The Reichstag:
The Reichstag is one of Berlin’s landmarks
and the seat of the German Parliament. This impressive building
first hosted the Country’s parliament when it was opened
in 1894.
