Canal
boat tours offer an interesting means of viewing the City of Brugge
and a number of its attractions and neighboring regions. Boat trips
in the City are conducted on the Lys River which is one of the
main rivers in Belgium. Boat trips take you past a number of historic
buildings and bridges. Boat cruises can be prearranged for group
excursions or you can hop on to one at a terminal.
Major attractions to view on Brugge canal boat
trips are:
The Minnewater:
Also known as the Lake of Love, the Minnewater
is situated in the southern part of Brugge and was at first
used as an inland canal harbor for the City. The lake is bounded
by a well maintained public park where you can see some of
the locals including; white swans and duck taking a stroll.
The Beguinage: (Begijnof)
This is a compound encompassed by a group of
homes constructed in the 18th Century and was used by the Beguine
sisterhood established in the 13th Century.
Along the way you can also stop for strolls on
café strips and souvenir shops. A canal boat trip
offers a relaxing way to see Brugge at a slow pace.
