Bucharest
is the Capital City of Romania, a status it has held since the
1860s. The City is also the most populous in the Country and Europe
home to about 2 million residents. Bucharest is home to a good
number of the Country’s industries such as food processing,
engineering, farm machinery and textiles. The City is also the
headquarters for a number of national firms and is the main center
for commerce.
The City has a host of attractions and hosts
a number of cultural festivals each year. Major monuments and
buildings include:
- the Memorial dedicated to the fallen heroes
of the Romanian Revolution,
- the Palace of the Parliament,
- And the Triumphal Arch.
The Romania National Art Museum: established
in 1948, this museum is situated in the Bucharest City Centre
at Calea Victoriei 49-53 at the Royal Palace. The Museum has
a large permanent collection of Romanian art works and craft,
with some items here dating back to the 15th Century.
Entertainment: Bucharest is
home to a number of local and foreign restaurants, there are
also a number of pubs many featuring live music and discotheques.
Transport in Bucharest: the
City is comprehensively covered by a public transport system
consisting of tram, rail services and buses. The City is also
served by two international airports; the Aurel Vlaicu International
Airport and the Henri Coanda International Airport.
