England:

England is one of the Constituent Countries of the United Kingdom together with Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. London is the Capital of England and the United Kingdom. This small but heavily populated Country is home to more than 50 million people.

Tourism in England:

England enjoys a healthy tourism industry. It is home to the British Monarchy and has a rich cultural history. The Country also excels in sports and has one of the most prominent soccer leagues in the world; the English Premier League. The Country has also been a major achiever in rugby, athletics, cycling and swimming.

Interesting places to visit:

The Tower of London: One of London’s major landmarks, the tower was built about 2,000 years ago and has been home to the British Monarchy and Government. The tower is situated off the Thames River and is a popular tourist attraction.

Kensington Palace:

Once home for Princess Diana, Kensington Palace was used as residential quarters for the Country’s rulers until 1760. It has since then been used as then been used as a residency for members of the royal family.

Hampton Court Palace:

Built almost five centuries ago, the Hampton Court Palace is a magnificent complex, regarded as the Greatest Palace in Great Britain.

Dover Castle:

Located in Kent, the Dover Castle is significant to English History. Its construction occurred in a number of phases starting in the 12th Century when the building of “Great Tower”. The Castle’s main attraction is its wartime tunnels which were used since the Middle Ages and most recently during the 2nd World War.

Hadrian’s Wall:

Built during the period of the Roman Empire in Britain, the wall is a world heritage site. It was built by the empire as a fortification for its British Colony from possible invasion by Scottish tribes considered savage and backward.

Other places to visit are; the Island of Wight, St Ives in Cornwall, cruise the Thames and the Isle of Man.
