Estonia
is a small east European nation situated off the gulf of Finland
to the north of Latvia and west of Russia. This former member of
the Soviet Union gained its independence in 1991 and is now a member
of the European Union.
The Country has a decent level of economic
growth and major industries include; electronics,
information technology and wood products. The Country has yet
to adopt the Euro as its
currency and the Estonian Kroon (EEK) is the title of its currency.
People and culture: Estonia has a small population of about
1,324,333 people mostly of Estonian and Russian ethnicity.
Estonian is the country’s national language though Russian
is widely spoken. For administrative purposes, the Country is
divided into
15 counties each with its own headquarters.
Tallinn:
Tallinn is the Capital and largest city in Estonia. The city
is also home to one of the Country’s key ports. Tallinn
is a small city with a population of about 400,000 which is
a large proportion of the Estonian population. The city has
a healthy
tourism industry mainly because of its historic buildings and
culture. The old town zone of Tallinn and its buildings are
listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO.
