Hadrian's Wall:
Built
during the period of the Roman Empire in Britain, the wall is a
world heritage site. It was built by the empire as a fortification
for its British Colony from possible invasion by Scottish tribes
considered savage and backward. The wall is one of the many world
heritage sites in England. It was constructed by soldiers of the
occupying Roman Legions and took six years to complete from the
year 122 AD. The wall originally spanned about 120 km and much
of it is still intact surviving centuries of natural weathering.
Attractions:
There are a number of forts built during the Roman Era that
are still standing, such as; the Vindolanda, Chesters and Segedunum.
There are also a number of archaeological sights, museums and
picnic sites along the wall.
