This
is a yearly procession where the holy blood on a cloth used to
wipe Jesus Christ is paraded through the town. This is the highlight
of the procession. This festival is held usually during the month
of May and is one of the most interesting spectacles observed in
the City of Brugge. The Procession of the holy blood began in 1150
and has been held every year since.
Another major part of the festival is the processions featuring
re-enactments and representations of the Bible including the
Old and New testaments.
Major scenes in the bible are represented
here with locals dressing up to portray; The Israeli People
in Egypt, the Story of Joseph, Moses, John the Baptist and the
Story
of Jesus. This colorful festival can be appreciated by not
only religious enthusiasts but anyone looking to soak up this
uniquely
festive atmosphere.
