The
Isle of Man is a small island located in the Irish Sea about 100
km to the west of the Lancashire Coastline between Great Britain
and Ireland. Contrary to general public perception, the Isle is
not part of the United Kingdom and is an autonomous Country with
its own form of Government. The island has since 1765 been the
property of the British Crown (a dependency). The Island covers
an area of 572 square kilometers. The Isle of Man has its own currency
known as the pound, though the British Sterling Pound is accepted
in many places.
The town of Douglas located on the Isle’s east coast is
the Capital of Man and is home to the government and a centre
for commerce, finance and industry. The town has a small population
of only 25,347 residents. Other major towns are Castletown,
Peel and Ramsey.
