The
main City of Turkey, though not it’s Capital, Istanbul is
one of Europe’s important historic cities. The City is also
the main centre for commerce and trade in Turkey as well as a key
point for transport in the Country. Istanbul is home to two key
international airports; Sabiha Gokcen Airport and the Ataturk Airport.
Transport in Istanbul: the city has an extensive public transport
network which consists of buses, tram, a metro network and trains.
Istanbul is also linked to other parts of the Country by rail
and highways.
Tourism in Istanbul:
Rumeli Fortress: situated on the European side of the Bosphorus
at Yahya Kemal Caddesi, the Rumeli Fortress is one of Istanbul’s
feature attractions and was built in the 15th Century. Now housing
a museum, the fortress’s grounds host a number of cultural
events including music concerts.
Topkapi Palace: a popular tourist attraction, the palace was
the administrative centre of the once powerful Ottoman Empire
and was built in the 15th Century. The palace was converted into
a museum and is open for visits by the public.
Other interesting places in Istanbul are; the Castle of Seven
Towers, Galata Tower and the Chora Church. Istanbul also hosts
a number of cultural festivals each year such as the Istanbul
International Film Festival and the International music festival.
