Krakow
is the second largest City of Poland with a population of about
757,500. The City is situated in the south of the Country and is
the administrative capital of the Lower Poland Voivodship. The
City is like a second Polish capital and rivals Warsaw in many
aspects including commerce, education and tourism. Krakow is one
of the most visited cities in Poland.
Archaeological discoveries made within the City provide evidence
suggesting that Krakow was a human settlement more than 50,000
years ago. The City became the Capital of the Polish Empire until
1791 when Poland was subdivided by Austria, Russia and Prussia.
Krakow became a part of the Austrian Empire.
