Lisbon
has a fair amount of museums offering different information on
the cultural and historic development of Portugal.
Portuguese Maritime Museum: established in 1863, this museum
is dedicated to the rich naval history of Portugal. The museum
is situated at the monumental Jeronimos Monastery. The museum’s
extensive permanent collection features ship models, documents,
photos and art work.
Military Museum: this museum has an impressive collection of
arms and artillery including guns, swords and ammunition. The
museum is dedicated to Portuguese military history including
the famous Napoleonic era.
Belem Cultural Centre: this large cultural centre is the scene
for a number of art exhibitions, music concerts and performing
arts.
Carmo Archaeological Museum: situated in the remnants of the
Carmo Convent, the museum is dedicated to the historical development
of Lisbon.
