Lisbon:
With
a population of just about 0.6 million people, Lisbon is the Capital
and largest City of Portugal. The City was largely rebuilt after
an earthquake that caused widespread devastation and damage in
1755.
The City became the Capital of the Portuguese
Empire in 1255 though it had been in existence as a trade centre
for centuries
prior to this. The City is the financial and commerce capital
of Portugal; home to a number of industries and the headquarters
for
major local and international firms.
The City is home to a number of historic buildings and museums
such as;
• The Castle of Sao Jorge,
• Lisbon Cathedral,
• Jeronimos Monastery which is world heritage listed,
• Belem Tower,
• The Fronteira Palace.
Lisbon also has a variety of shops, restaurants, galleries,
cinemas, pubs and nightclubs. Lisbon also has a number of impressive
monuments such as; the Monument to the Discoveries and Igreja
do Carmo.
Lisbon Airport:
The Lisbon International airport also known as the Portela Airport
is the main airport in Lisbon and Portugal. The airport provides
for international and domestic flights to other Portuguese cities.
Situated near the City, the airport is the main operating hub
for local Portuguese airline TAP Portugal.
