former Soviet State, Lithuania declared its independence in 1990
though it was not recognized until a year later. The Country is
a member of the European Union and NATO and is one of the most
prosperous of the former Soviet States with low unemployment levels.
Lithuania is situated in Eastern Europe off the Baltic Sea, south
of Latvia and to the west of Belarus.
