A
former Soviet State, Moldova attained its independence from the
Union in 1990. The Country has since battled poverty and an underperforming.
The Country has one of the highest poverty levels in Europe. Major
industries here include; textiles, machinery, white goods and food
processing. The country’s currency is known as the Moldovan
Leu (MDL).
Moldova is a fairly small country situated in Eastern Europe
and is bordered to its west by Romania and to the east by Ukraine.
The Country has a population of about 4.47 million and Moldovan
is the national language here though Russian and Gagauz are widely
spoken.
Chisinau:
With a population of about 731,941, Chisinau is the capital
and largest City in Moldova. The City is an important centre
for finance, and governance being home to the Moldovan Parliament.
Chisinau is also home to a large percentage of the Country’s
manufacturing and processing industries.
Chisinau is also an important centre for knowledge and formal
education. The City is home to a host of universities and colleges
such as the; Free International University of Moldova, Moldova
State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Technical University
of Moldova and the Chisinau University.
