The
Munich Airport is one of the key airports in Germany and one of
the busiest in Europe. Experiencing rapid growth after being opened
in 1992, the airport now handles well over 20 million passengers
annually. The airport replaced Munich Riem which was in use since
1939. It is situated about 28 km north-east of the City Centre.
A second modern terminal was opened in 2003 with a capacity of
handling between 20-25 million passengers annually.
Airlines:
The airport caters for international flights to cities around
the world and is one of the main domains of local flag carrier
Lufthansa Airways. Other airlines operating from here are; Aeroflot,
Aer Lingus, Air France, Air Namibia, Air Mauritius, Iberia, African
Safari Airlines, British Airways, Air Berlin, Czech Airlines,
Air Malta, Egyptair, Emirates, Finnair, Alitalia, EasyJet, KLM
and Swiss International.
Facilities at the airport: a large shopping complex between
the two terminals, car hire, duty free shops, restaurants, cafes,
bars, foreign exchange, gift shops and lounges.
The Kempinski Hotel:
Situated within the airport, the Kempinski is a five star hotel
situated between the Munich’s two passenger terminals.
The hotel occupies a modern five storey building with 343 rooms
and 46 suites.
