Munich
is the Capital of the federal state of Bavaria, a prosperous region
of Germany and an economic stronghold. The City is one of the largest
in the Country with a population of about 1.2 million. Munich has
always been integral in local history since its founding in 1158.
The City became the capital of the Bavarian Kingdom in the 16th
Century.
Munich International Airport:
The Munich Airport is one of the key airports in Germany and
one of the busiest in Europe. In 2000 alone it handled over 23
million passengers.
Sports in Munich:
Munich hosted the 1972 Olympics at the Olympic Stadium. This
event was marred by the terrorist attacks on a group of Israeli
athletes. The City is home to one of Europe’s leading
soccer clubs; Bayern Munich. The City also has a number of
world class
sporting facilities including; more than 40 golf courses, gymnasiums,
tennis courts, swimming pools and race tracks.
Oktoberfest:
Oktoberfest is a world famous beer festival that draws millions
of visitors each year. The festival puts Munich on the international
scene and is held usually between September and October. Festivities
last for two weeks and feature colorful street parades, beer
tents and concerts.
There are many museums to visit, monuments, historic buildings
and art galleries. Munich is also a lively and entertaining City
with a host of options including; parks, a zoo, restaurants,
pubs, night clubs, cinemas and shopping centres.
