The Netherlands:
A
prominent member of the European Union and NATO, the Kingdom
of the Netherlands is a prosperous industrialized west European
Nation
situated between Belgium and Germany off the North Sea. The Country’s
prominent industries include; engineering, food processing, chemicals,
crude oil processing, electronics, construction and agriculture
equipment and fertilizers.
The Country adopted the Euro as its
currency replacing the Dutch Guilder. Tourism in the
Netherlands draws visitors mainly to its major Cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam
and The Hague which is the seat of the United Nations War Crimes
Tribunal. The Hague is also the seat of government though the
status of Capital City is retained by Amsterdam. The Netherlands
is ruled
by a constitutional monarchy currently under Queen
Beatrix.
Amsterdam:
The Capital and largest City of the Netherlands, Amsterdam is
normally included in European tour packages offered by travel
agents around the world. The City is famed for its nightlife,
entertainment, rich culture and history which makes it one
of the most visited cities in Europe. Amsterdam has a population
of about 730,000 people. The city is also home to the Schiphol
Airport one of Europe’s major airports.
Rotterdam:
Home to one of the largest ports in the world, Rotterdam is
the 2nd major city in the Netherlands. The City has a very multicultural
population composition consisting of local Dutch, North African,
Turkish, Surinamese and Cape Verdian.
