Also
referred to as the Opera Garnier, the Palais is an Opera House
that was designed by Charles Garnier who was the winner of a design
competition held for this purpose. The house is another of Paris’s
historic buildings which features magnificent architectural designs
and art works.
The building’s construction started in 1871 and it was
officially opened in 1875 with a capacity of about 2,100 people.
Its design features impressive art works and sculptures.
The Opera House is located in the Paris City Centre at no. 8
Scribe Road. Since its opening till present, the house has been
one of the centres for performing arts and opera in the City.
Currently the Opera national de Paris Led by Gerard Mortier holds
a number of performances at the house each year. The troupe’s

The Palais Garnier is open for tours by the general public daily
between 10 am and 4.30 pm. Entry costs about 5 Euros for an
adult, and guided tours are also available.
