Paris:

Paris is the Capital of France and a major world city. The City has been existence and the centre for French Civilization and government since the middle ages. Paris was the scene of the French revolution and Bastille Day which is a French National holiday marking the beginning of the revolution, is celebrated in the City annually on July 14th.

Today, Paris is a modern City, an important centre of finance, commerce and government. The City is also regarded as one of the world’s fashion capitals alongside Rome, London, Tokyo and New York. Paris is famed for its restaurants, nightlife, theatres and monuments. The City has a population of 2.123 million residents.

Tourism in Paris:

Paris is regarded as one of the greenest cities in the world. It has a number of public parks and botanical gardens such as the Jardin des Halles, Jardin Atlantique, Jardin et Palais du Luxembourg and the Jardin du Palais Royal.

Historical Monuments:

The Eiffel Tower:

Probably the most popular landmark in Paris and as famous as the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 and was so named after its key architect Gustave Eiffel. The tower stands at a height of 986 feet and is the tallest structure in Paris.

Other important monuments in the City are; the Arc de Triomphe, the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Musee du Louvre.

Sports:

Paris hosts a number of major international sporting events each year. The City is the scene of some of the action from the Tour de France held in July. It hosts the French Open at Rolland Garros which is one of the Grand Slam tournaments on the Professional tennis circuit. The Stade de France hosted the final of the 1998 soccer world cup which the French team won.
