Paris
is a city famed for its historical monuments and landmarks. A city
that has been in existence for centuries, its museums and art galleries
celebrate Paris’s past and present. Museums in the City include
the Louvre which houses the famous Venus de Milo Statue; others
are; Mussee Rodin, Musee de l’Armee, Musee des Arts Decoratifs,
Musee Adzak, Musee de Luxembourg, Musee Picasso.
The Eiffel Tower:
Probably the most popular landmark in Paris and as famous as
the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Eiffel Tower was built
in 1889 and was so named after its key architect Gustave Eiffel.
A holiday in Paris would not be considered complete unless one
visits the tower. The tower stands at a height of 986 feet and
is the tallest structure in Paris.
Notre Dame Cathedral Towers:
One of Paris’s landmarks, the Notre Dame features Gothic
architecture and was built during the Gothic era with its construction
done in a number of phases beginning in 1163. In 1991, the
building underwent major rehabilitation which was to last a decade.
Since
its humble beginnings, the Cathedral has been integral to the
religious history of Paris.
Palais Garnier:
Also referred to as the Opera Garnier, the Palais is an Opera
House that was designed by Charles Garnier who was the winner
of a design competition held for this purpose. The house is
another of Paris’s historic buildings which features magnificent
architectural designs and art works.
Arc de Triomphe:
Situated in the middle of the Place de l’Etoile (a major
roundabout in the Paris City Centre), the Arc de Triomphe is
another popular landmark in Paris. This is one of the largest
triumphal arches in the world. The construction of the arch
was sanctioned by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1806 after military triumph
at Austerlitz.
