Regarded
as one of the primary military museums in the world, the Royal
Museum has a vast collection of military equipment including weapons
and armored vehicles, regalia and medals from Belgium and other
Countries. This impressive collection spans about 10 centuries
of military history.
The museum occupies one of the buildings at the Cinquantenaire
Park which is also home to the Triumphal Arch an important monument
in the City of Brussels.
The Museum’s collection:
Aviation department: opened in 1972, this department features
a collection sure to impress the aviation enthusiast. The aviation
department has over a hundred plane and balloon models such as;
the Zeppelins used by the German Army in the 1st World War, the
F-16 and the British Spitfire.
The museum also has a dedicated Tank department which features
the history and evolution of tanks and armored vehicles in modern
warfare.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 4.45 pm
closing between 12pm and 1pm for lunch. It remains closed on
Mondays. There is also a souvenir shop and restaurant within
the building.
