Skansen
is one of Stockholm’s feature tourist attractions. One of
the first open air museums in the world, it is also a zoological
park and is home to a variety of animals. This historic museum
is a creation of King Oscar II in 1881 in order to serve as a reminder
of the history and culture of the Swedish people between the 18th
and 19th Centuries. Notable buildings are;
• Seglora Church: a timber structure transferred from
its original site to Skansen in 1916, the church is still open
for visits and Sunday service.
• Delsbo Farmstead: featuring two typical Swedish farmhouses, this
is one of the key summer attractions at the museum.
• The Ironmongers House,
• The Town Quarters.
The Skansen Zoo:
Home to a number of different animal species mainly featuring
Scandinavian wildlife, this museum is home to; Wolverine, Brown
Bear, Elk, Reindeer, Wolf and Lynx. There is also a small aquarium
and an animal farm.
