Located
in the County of Sussex off Bassingbourne Road, Stansted is another
of London’s main airports and the third busiest in England
after Heathrow and Gatwick. The airport was first opened in 1942
for use as a military airbase. After the end of the 2nd World War,
the airport purpose was significantly diminished and in decades
to follow it was used for training. Stansted was reopened in 1991
following the completion of a new terminal building. The airport
is run by the British Airports Authority.
Services:
Stansted has one main terminal building which provides for arrivals
and departures. In 2005, the airport handled about 22.2 million
passengers. Facilities at Stansted include; restaurants, duty
free shops, bars and an entertainment centre.

Major airlines operating from here are; Air Berlin, Air Malta,
El Al, German Wings, Cyprus Airways, Atlantic Airlines, Ryanair,
Easy Jet and Sky Europe.
To and from the airport:
Stansted is linked to London via the Stansted Express train
service which takes about 45 minutes to complete the journey.
Other much slower options are; coach, taxi and bus transport.
