Though
Turkey is grouped as a European Country, it is situated on the
border between Europe and Asia in the Southwestern end of the Asian
Continent. The republic was established in 1923 following the disintegration
of the once powerful Ottoman Empire. At present the Turkey’s
economy falls behind that of the top European Nations and the country
is still seeking membership to the European Union. Turkey is a
member of NATO. The Turkish Lira is the title of the Country’s
currency.
Ankara:
Ankara is the Capital City of Turkey and the 2nd largest city
in the Country after Istanbul. The City is situated within
the province of the same name. Ankara’s long history and
rich culture means that while at present being a modern city,
there
are a good number of cultural attractions to be found here.
Istanbul:
The main City of Turkey, though not it’s Capital, Istanbul
is one of Europe’s important historic cities. The City
is also the main centre for commerce and trade in Turkey as well
as a key point for transport in the Country. Istanbul is home
to two key international airports; Sabiha Gokcen Airport and
the Ataturk Airport.
