Wales:
A
constituent nation of Great Britain, Wales is a small nation
situated at the southwest tip of the island of Great Britain.
The Country’s
national symbol; the Red Dragon appears on the Welsh flag and has
long been associated with the Country’s history as a symbol
of identification. Wales maintains a level of semi-autonomy from
the United Kingdom and the City of Cardiff as its capital. Welsh
and English are the Country’s national languages and the
British Pound is used as the official currency.
Wales competes as an individual entity in various sporting
disciplines such as the commonwealth games, soccer and
rugby. Welsh rugby
which was at its peak between the 1970s and 1980s is the Country’s
national sport. The team went through a slump in the 90s and
has since the 2003 World Cup become increasingly competitive
winning
the 2005 Six Nations Competition.
The Millenium Stadium in Cardiff hosted the 1999 World Cup finals
and FA Cup matches.
Cardiff:
Cardiff is the Capital and largest City of Wales. The City is
situated in the South of the Country and has a population of
316,800 people. A multi-cultural city, Cardiff has experienced
a considerable number of immigration in the past decade. The
City is the main industrial and commerce hub for the Country
as well as the centre for government.
